During a recent trip to New York, we attended a live NFL game which was held at MetLife stadium.  The stadium is used by both the New York NFL teams, the Giants and the Jets.  On this occassion the New York Giants were are home to the Los Angeles Chargers.  As big fans of American Football, we had a great day out.

Getting from Manhattan in New York to the MetLife stadium at Meadowlands is really easy via the train.  We hoped on at Penn Station, changed at Secaucus and then straight into Meadowlands which is outside the stadium – If in doubt you can follow all of the fans who are wearing their NFL supporters jerseys!

We arrived early and enjoyed a few beers as we walked around the Tailgate.  If you’ve never attended a Tailgate before, it’s a fun experience as fans are having beers, BBQ’s and playing games in the build-up to the game.

With about 45 minutes to go until kickoff, we headed towards our seats.  We bought our tickets via StubHub and found we were right at the back of the stadium.  This was good as we didn’t have anybody behind us so we could stand up when we wanted.  We also had a fantastic view of the pitch.

Of course, we wore our newly launched NFL collection ready for kick-off!  Keil is pictured wearing the baseball style t-shirt.   You can find out more here.

Neither team had won a game so far in the season so it was set to be a good game and it didn’t disappoint.  Over all four quarters the game was highly competitive with both teams playing hard for the win. The lead changed hands several times and came down to the final few minutes of the fourth quarter before the “big” play happened. Deep in their own half Giants QB Eli Manning was strip sacked by Chargers defensive end Melvin Ingram, the ball fell loose and was recovered by Ingram giving LA great field position. A couple of plays later Chargers QB Phillip Rivers found Melvin Gordon in space with a short pass leading to a touchdown, giving the Chargers a lead of 27-22.

With only a couple of minutes of the game remaining the Giants had one last chance to drive downfield into Charger territory and go for the touchdown they needed to steal the win. In an exciting finale Eli Manning threw a pass intended for his receiver to make a big gain and get a first down, his pass was intercepted by Chargers safety Tre Boston giving his team possession of the ball in this decisive moment, the Charger’s offense took to the field and took a knee to win the game.

The game was over and the Los Angeles Chargers took the W – Their first win of the season.  This left the Giants still searching for their first win.

We had a great time, we firmly believe watching live sport is the best!  Do you agree?
