We were so excited when the UCI Cycling Road World Championships finally came to our home city of Bradford. It was hard to believe the day was finally here. Bradford was the host of the Women's Road Race start before they set off on a tough race to the finish in Harrogate.
Before the race began we were invited to the Lord Mayor of Bradford's reception in City Hall. Bradford City Hall was the backdrop of the start & it's a magnificent building.
Once the reception was finished we eagerly headed outside to the start area. Here we saw the riders go to sign on before lining up where they would then be called in order, by country, to the start line.
Once they were all ready, the race was off! We watched on the big screen as they weaved through Bradford on a neutral start before the race then began at the bottom of Hollins Hill - A hill we've climbed ourselves many times!
It was a fantastic morning watching the riders & once it was all over we went home to watch the rest of the race on the TV. Ultimately the race was won by a huge solo effort by Annemiek van Vlueten of the Netherlands. We managed to get a photo of her before the start!
