If you’re anything like us here at Voltage Sport it’s not much fun when your alarm goes off in the morning. However, establishing a morning routine or at the very least a few positive habits can make a real difference in setting you up for the day.

healthy morning habits

One of the keys to a positive day is to not be rushing around in the morning! Sometimes it’s easier said than done but setting your alarm a little bit earlier to give your body & your mind time to wake up can make a big difference.

TOP TIP – If you are not getting your full nights sleep (at least 7 hours is recommended) then go to bed a little bit earlier to ensure you feel rested in the morning.

healthy morning habits

It can be so easy to snooze your alarm multiple times but if you can minimise this you will feel better. When you snooze your alarm you might drift back to sleep but you are not getting good quality sleep as your alarm will wake you again in a few minutes.

Once you’re awake it’s so easy to look at your phone but if you can, try to resist! Looking at your phone straight away can have a negative impact especially if the first thing you are doing is catching up on emails or reading someone complaining on Facebook. You want to fill your mind with positivity in the morning!

Positive Habits

There are so many positive actions you can take in a morning, we must admit we are still a work in progress ourselves but we notice a huge difference to how we feel, our productivity levels & our energy when we do 1 or 2 of these each morning:

  • Writing or saying 5 things you are grateful for
  • Stretching or a short yoga practice
  • Meditation
  • Affirmations

Even if some of these seem a little woo-woo at first, there’s no harm in trying, right?

Most importantly when you wake up in the morning your body is dehydrated. Chances are you haven’t had anything to drink since before you fell asleep which could be 6-10 hours before! It’s important to drink water when you first wake up to re-hydrate your body & helps your brain to function optimally. We also like a little bit of caffeine in the morning & we love to add these Fizz Sticks to our water which gives us a little boost before we start the day!

The most important thing when developing healthy habits in the morning is to ensure they work for you. It’s easy to feel overwhelmed so start by adding one positive habit into your routine for a week or two, see how it feels & then change it if it’s not working or add in another one if it is.

Do you have positive morning habits which set you up for a great day?
