Welcome to the New Year! It’s a time for setting new goals, reflecting on the year which has past and deciding what you will do to make this year different (if anything). We know this time of year you are bombarded with “New Year, New You” type posts but we still wanted to weigh in give you our top 3 tips to help you achieve your fitness goals.
Fitness goals give you something to strive towards, they are especially helpful when your motivation is lacking and you don’t feel like carrying on – This happens to everyone now and again. A fitness goal could be to achieve a challenge such as running a marathon but also they can be much smaller. It could be working out 4 times a week in January and then February you mix it up. Another goal can be to try a new class or exercise each week.
Make them something you want to achieve – It’s easy to get caught up in the hype of new year and set huge goals but do you really want to achieve them? Keep your goals to something you want to achieve so you can enjoy the journey and not just the outcome.

Make it measurable – Whatever your goal find a way to measure it on a regular basis. If your goals relate to weight loss, strength or speed these are easy to monitor but make sure you keep a note of them. If your goals are around activity, write them down or create a checklist. This will really help you see how far you’ve come. On a weekly or monthly basis it can be hard to see your progress but when you see it written down you might be surprised!
Find something you will enjoy – If you don’t like the gym don’t make one of your goals to go 5 times a week, you’ll soon get fed up. Find enjoyable ways to meet your goals. There are 12 months of the year and if your goals are long-term you are going to be doing fitness activity a lot so you want to be happy! That doesn’t mean don’t push yourself but when you like your activity you’re more likely to work hard and get nearer to your goals.
These are our 3 tips to help you reach your fitness goals this year. Tell us, what are your goals for the next 3, 6 or 12 months? We can’t wait to see you achieve them!
